CNN Newsmakers Pitch

The designs below are from a pitch to CNN’s Chief Marketing Officer and the Creative Director of Marketing and Promotions. The goal was to create an overall look for CNN’s first ever live Upfront event.

The period in the logo implies that CNN is the final word in news and was designed to run throughout all elements, even becoming a TV, iPhone, or iPod screen in video montages. The single, powerful words serve to emphasize that CNN’s reputation is built on many attributes from Honesty to Courage to Passion.

Assuming CNN red would be used in many of the videos and stage elements, the color palette was carefully chosen to support and not overwhelm. The Thesis type family, both strong and friendly, adds an element of humanity while remaining serious and “newsy.”

Consideration was given to the formal invitation (a reporter’s notebook, which could double as the guest’s ticket) and gift bags, as well as environmental graphics, signage, and a step-and-repeat wall for photo opportunities.
